The Cost of Corrosion and How to Prevent It – A Case Study

Metallurgy, Corrosion, and More

Corrosion costs over $1 trillion (with a T!) annually in  the US alone – much of which is preventable. Learn how to reduce costs and improve safety:

Several different studies on the cost of corrosion have been performed, including a recent one by NACE. They used published statistics and surveys to determine the direct cost of corrosion (the cost born by companies), but in every case they leave out the indirect cost (the cost to consumers and society). Most studies estimate that this cost is equal or more than the direct cost. Using those figures and adding inflation, it appears that the total cost of corrosion in the US probably passed $1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) dollars in 2017 or 2018.

Most of that corrosion can be prevented.
